Rupees

Postby Marrob 33 » 10 Mar 2018 22:19

We have booked to go on a Marella Cruise, visiting ports in India, Sri Lanka and Goa at the end of this year.

Apparently rupees have to be purchased, and exchanged in India. Does anyone know of any problems that may arise, or hints as to the best places to buy and then sell them, please?

Not been to that part of the world myself, but there are still a few places in the world where you cannot buy their currency outside their borders - and you can't take it out either; India must be one.

This link Purchase of Rupees may be of use. However, I am sure a few members have been that way, and provide more relevant/useful info.

Will you not be able to buy them at the port? Failing that you could use an atm just don’t use your main bank card! Visited a few years ago. Think at the time we took travellers cheques, tells you how long ago it was. We just changed a few at a time in the hotel, things are so cheap in India you don’t need many anyway. Be prepared for the noise and chaos and enjoy.

Rupees

Postby Gillzajoker » 19 Mar 2018 14:23

Because we had tours organised, we only needed a few rupees for the odd coffee or soft drink, and tips, so we just changed our currency in our hotel. Of course, not a good rate, but with the amounts involved, it was negligable, and save any hassle. :D :D
