Braemar Cancelled 12th March departure

Postby Jeffo » 11 Mar 2020 12:12

There are cases of Coronovirus among the crew on board Braemar. We were due to depart tomorrow for Barbados to join Braemar for her repositioning cruise back to Southampton. The cruise has been cancelled. This is the announcement QUOTE: We are very sorry to let you know that the forthcoming cruise ‘Islands of the Caribbean & the Azores’ (M2006) has unfortunately been cancelled. We must sincerely apologise for the late notice.
Guest safety and that of our crew is our number one priority. Late last night we found that a small number of people currently on Braemar have tested positive for COVID-19 Coronavirus. There is also much uncertainty in the Caribbean region with ships frequently delayed or denied access to planned ports of call. In these unprecedented times, we can therefore not guarantee that we could deliver the holiday we have promised our guests.
We will of course be offering a full refund to all guests including any additional expenses incurred (e.g. train tickets, airport parking fees).
All guests who are affected will be contacted by us today. In the meantime, please call our Guest Relations team on 0800 0355 145 between 8am and 8pm with any questions. UNQUOTE
Full marks to Fred. Olsen for putting safety before profit. Feeling a bit stunned as we try to unravel all our arrangements.

Very disappointing for you, but I am impressed that Fred Olsen have taken such a decisive and positive step - including stating (without prompting) that extra costs will be reimbursed.
Can only do them good in the long run to be so proactive, as it must surely improve customer confidence ad goodwill.
Let's hope that it does not take too long for things to settle down again.

I can understand your disappointment, Jeffo, but think FO have done the right thing. And at
least you shouldn't be out of pocket over it, just a bit of hassle. And the cruise in question will
probably come around next year. :D

Thank you Gill and Newmember for your kind sentiments. Fred. Olsen have spoken to us and given us two options - a full refund, or new cruises up to double the value of the cancelled one. We've chosen the full refund.

Pity about the short notice but at least you won't end up quarantined in your cabin then the hassle of getting home.

Sorry to hear about your cancellations Jeffo. Thanks for sharing the information.

I too agree with other members view that FO have done the right thing. Hopefully other lines will take note and stop this ridiculous 'deep clean' fallacy.

Braemar Cancelled 12th March departure

Braemar's latest situation:
Thursday 12th March 2020, 10.25am
We can confirm that we have been required to change the itinerary for Braemar, after five people on board tested positive for COVID-19 Coronavirus.

We were due to end our ‘Western Caribbean & Central America’ cruise today in Barbados. However we have changed course, following a cautious response from the local authorities, and are now heading towards the Bahamas (our Flag State).

We are currently working with the Bahamas, the UK government, UK Chamber of Shipping and Public Heath England to ensure that all guests can return home as soon as possible.

We continue to follow advice from Public Health England and there is currently no requirement for guests to stay in their cabins. However, we have put other measures in place. These include operating open seating at mealtimes, so that guests can sit on emptier tables. We are also asking guests to keep a reasonable distance from each other and crew members, as much as possible.

We are keeping those on board regularly updated and are asking all guests and crew to return to their cabin and call the Medical Centre, if they begin to feel unwell.

Certainly inspires confidence in their ability to handle a problem - and to keep their passengers updated about what is happening. Much better then the "we see no problem" attitude.
