Today, 9th September - 15.16 (our time)

We've had a lovely day on Sicily. Visited Taormina and Etna.

The Guide was excellent. It has been scorchio!

Next stop Wednesday and Athens.

Glynis and Andy on P&O Azura/Mediterranean cruise 2019

Postby grannyM » 11 Sep 2019 17:37

Today 11th September, 13.40 (our time)
Update from Glynis from Athens.

Glynis called my mobile and since I was driving it came through the link to the car speaker. I apologise if I have not remembered every detail about the call. I was completely taken off-guard as I've never had a call in the car like this before.

They were on an excursion to the Acropolis and had gone up to the top in the lift. Everything was fine until the wanted to go back down and lo and behold the lift had broken down. Of course as Andy is in the wheelchair and the walk back down is impossible with that there was a certain amount of panic. An offer was made to carry him down but Glynis didn't think that would be possible. After a long agonishing wait in the end after much stress the lift was fixed and they got down.

I'm so sorry I cannot remember where else they were going on this excursion but the rest of it was uneventful, thank goodness.

There has been yet another change to the itinerary - Mykonos has been cancelled due to forecast of stormy weather. Alternative port Crete no suitable excursion for wheelchair user and apparently DIY rather difficult too.

Thank you for your updates - much appreciated. Poor Glynis and Andy, must have been very stressful for them today, but at least they made it down safely. Shame they are losing Mykonos, but I do gather via other friends who are cruising in the Med that there have been some really bad storms the last couple of days, especially around Malaga, which of course was their first port of call. Crete is lovely - what a shame they can't DIY or get a suitable excursion.

Oh gosh! What a worry. :o Glad all OK in the end.

So......no Mykonos..... it was that port that had caused upset when changed to a tender port so now nobody will be going there!

Hope the rest of the cruise is good for them.

A quick update text from Glynis last night - 11th September, 19.09 (our time)

Another change!
Santorini tomorrow due to weather on Friday when we should be there.

Crete on Friday instead, at a place called Souda Bay. Do you know anything about this place?

(I replied that since I've never been to Crete that I did not. I presume she is trying find out if there is anything of particular interest and to plan how accessible it could be for a DIY. Does anyone else have any information I could parhaps pass on to Glynis for tomorrow?)
