Having to cruise during the summer holidays is now becoming a pain in the proverbial!

Anyhow, I was looking at yet another Phoenix Reisen River Cruise on the Alina with the following itinerary, next July

Image

Cologne, River Cruise, Amsterdam, Ijsselmeer, Medemblik , Hoorn, Rotterdam, Gent, Antwerp, Nijmegen, River Cruise, Cologne

Anyhow going through the booking process a three person cabin was quoted at €749 per cabin.

I could not believe my luck and booked two three bed room cabins - taking my niece as a babysitter.

€749percabin.jpg

However Seascanner claim that that is a per person price and with kids discounts the cost per cabin rises to €1887.00

However, Seascanner describe their booking process as follows

Booking_Process.png

I booked the option which says it guarantees the amount I will pay for 1 - 4 days!

Should I give in? In fairness Seascanner have been good to me in past cruises or should I hold out?

Oh! That's very bad of them......... Especially as it's clear it says per cabin! Obviously a mistake but their guarantee makes it sound that what you're quoted is what you pay.

I once had a quote that was much lower, knew it wasn't right, queried it and turns out they hadn't added port fees/ charges etc. did get a free photo and frame though from the company once on board which I can only think was a Thank You for booking anyway. :Do

A price ticket on a tin of beans, means that the tin is being offered for that price, but the sale does not take place until money is exchanged. If a mistake has been made, the sale can be refused, That's the law.

Not necessarily it is here but as Tom lives in that Foreign land of Ireland the rules may not be the same

seriously Tom I think divingbrit is correct its an error on their part but as no money has changed hands you can both cancel without any sort of liability on either parties part. Happened not so long ago with a big website can't remember who possibly Tesco or asda they was selling tellies for £100 that should have been £1000 all sales were cancelled

Well we have an update from Seascanner.com

I had the week July 8 - 15 reserved but to show them the price per cabin quote I had to show them for the cruise 15 - 22 July as I had the two of the two cabins for the July 8-15 on hold so there were no more available to demonstrate my point.

This is Seascanner's response

Dear Tom,

Thank you for your new message.

We are talking the whole time for the river cruise 08/07/17-15/07/17. Your
price information concerns the river cruise starting on the 15th of July.
Please be informed that actually we have reserved for another period. So
please check if you like to travel on the 08th of July or preferred on
15th of July.

Your price information EUR 749 total is correcht for the 15th!

We are looking forward to hearing from you and wish you all the best.

With "light summer feeling" greetings to Ireland
Jana Klement

So I have now cancelled my option on July 8 - 15 cruise and booked an option on the 15 - 22 cruise.

I await a finalised quote.

I have now confirmation of the price being 749€ from two sources!

I shall keep you updated.

Tom

Not so fast Gill! This is what came today

REMARK: Dear Thomas, thank you for your new message. Unfortunately we have received the information by Phoenix Reisen that for technical reason the prices will be shown up not correct. I'm very sorry but the correct price is not EUR 749,00 total with my email yesterday!

The price is EUR 1,867.60 Euros total (749 Euros for 1 adult + 559,30 each child).

I feel an email expressing my dissatisfaction coming on!
