The River Cruise Line Christmas Markets Reviews

Bella & Sharon were fortunate enough to take a 3 night Christmas Market cruise in December onboard The River Cruise Line’s 4 star ms Serenity.

Here is Bella’s review:

We travelled by Eurostar to Paris, changing trains several times until we finally arrived in Mannheim. From here we boarded the ms Serenity. Our first thoughts were how sleek and elegant she looked. Onboard there are three decks plus the Sun Deck.

We unpacked and went to the Lounge Bar where we enjoyed a selection of sandwiches, cakes and hot beverages. The Lounge is located on the Panorama Deck which is very spacious and with an attractive decor and seemed like a nice area to relax after a day of sightseeing.

There was a real festive feeling onboard with all the public areas all decorated in Christmas decorations.

Breakfast is buffet style whilst lunch and dinner is À la carte menu. There are always five courses to choose from and you need to give your of menu beforehand. (i.e. at breakfast for lunch and at lunch for dinner).

There is only one sitting for dinner and all meals are served in the Restaurant. You can request your table size though. The menus included international cuisine and located dishes.

At the rear of the Panorama Deck is the small and intimate Lido Bar. This also leads to an outdoor terrace, the perfect place to sit on a warm day and view the amazing scenery.

All the cabins are on Main, Middle and Panorama Deck. Our cabin was on Middle Deck which had large sliding windows. All cabins are the same size and come with plenty of storage space. The bathroom was a good size with a walk in shower and an array of lovely toiletries.

After a lovely lunch on-board we headed to Heidelberg where there are five historic market squares, featuring about 140 stalls.
We were all served hot Gluhwein on board after our trip from Heidelberg which was very welcoming from the freezing temperature outside.

The following morning we disembarked at Strasbourg which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage site. We took a short taxi ride to the centre as we really wanted to make the most of the day in the festive town. Everything was so festive with lots of lights and beautiful decorations. The Great Christmas tree is wonderful and stands at almost 100 feet. At lunch we had a lovely “Tarte Flambee” in a very cosy restaurant with a fire place.

Sadly it was our last night on MS Serenity and tonight was the Captains Farewell Party. There was an introduction for all the crew onboard followed by champagne and canapés.

Next morning we bid farewell to the Captain and his crew and were transferred to the Mainz Rail station for our journey back home via Brussels.

We both enjoy our Christmas Market experience and the River Cruise Line is excellent value for money. The staff couldn't do enough for you. We will definitely cruise on this lovely friendly vessel again, however on a longer cruise.

Perhaps Sharon will avoid the ms Serenity though after accidentally knocked down one of the Christmas Trees onboard which resulted in the lights no longer working!

Happy Cruising
Kerry :)
