In spite of some rain, a good day in Gothenburg. Lunch at Ma Cuisine and a visit on board from the excellent Santa Lucia singers. Next stop Gdansk.ImageImage

We had the same local choir come aboard in Gothenburg - they are so amazing.

I like the yellow funnel better. Shall be on her for the first time on 23 Feb.

You will be getting on as one of my friends disembarks. I agree she actually suits the yellow funnel - we saw in Southampton on December.

Save a bit of packing. Saga has abandoned the informal dress code and now has just smart casual and formal. It is covered in the most recent "Life on Board" leaflet but, like most blokes, I didn't read the instructions.

Its been the just the two dress codes for quite a while now - certainly at least since May. I'm not surprised - its doesn't really make much difference for ladies, but the informal code really was chaos for the gents.

So, in summary, a most enjoyable Christmas and New Year cruise. Disappointed at the lack of snow. I used to travel to Stockholm frequently and remember thick snow from November through February but none this time. Global warming? Generally Saga Sapphire delivered well. Food excellent, entertainment fairly good, staff beyond reproach but decidedly iffy about this captain whose seamanship is doubtless excellent but sadly lacking in social niceties. A lovely thing about small ship cruising is the number of past friendships you rekindle both with passengers and crew. We'll stick with it for at least the next three booked cruises.

Sad to hear that they have removed "St. Andrews" - thought it was one of the best features on Sapphire!

I see from Face Book that Saga Pearl also now has the "yellow funnel"! That poor little ship must be getting confused. When she first came into the Saga fleet she was Saga Pearl 2 with a yellow funnel and since then she has had two changes of name (Quest of Adventure and back to Saga Pearl 2) and several changes of colour of funnel, but basically blue and white and now back to yellow!
