Ditto Gill. I found it rather surreal that we reached the top by an escalator after an elevator ride.

Many thanks to Marie for posting Hazel's Facebook posts.

MORE NEWS AND PHOTOS FROM HAZEL IN RIO ON FB TODAY

We arrived in Rio just after 1pm yesterday and set out, on tour, to see Christ the Redeemer. Fabulous backdrop of a Rio panorama with clear blue skies. Got to be one of the wonders of my world. #whatawonderfulworld

A busy day in Rio. Celebrity Infinity, MSC Musica, FO Balmoral, Pullmantur Sovereign and Island Princess are in town for the carnival.

Update from Hazel on FB today (Sunday 11th February)

Yesterday Rio was sizzling hot and very busy! We took the new tram to the downtown area and visited the cathedral which was cool and calm.

After that we walked through streets packed with carnival revellers ...lots of fancy dress and music but no parades.

This morning I have to stay on board to record my Montevideo and Buenos Aires talks again as a technical hitch meant that they were not recorded when done live.

Recorded two talks this morning - now lunch before setting out into the scorching sun.

The contrast of Rio....a favela on one hill and luxury homes on the other

From Hazel's FB today (Monday 12th February)

Rio Port area.jpg

Very impressed by the port area in Rio. Much improved in the last two years #olympiclegacy

We leave Rio at noon today and head down to Montevideo- the port to which I'm most looking forward to returning.

Yesterday was an absolute scorcher...37 degrees at 4pm. We had a deck party and temperatures stayed above 30 even after dark. Amazing thunderstorm in the distance for hours.

Will do my Punta del Este talk this afternoon and probably Evita the next day.

Balmoral was delayed departing Rio this afternoon by around two hours. A rather poor webcam pic of her passing Copacabana beach, weather is glorious
