Digital Postcards

This area is for 'digital postcards' sent by members while on a cruise. Let your Cruising Mates know what they're missing!

Digital Postcards

For many members, posts made live by others while they're cruising are among the most interesting of all. The viewing figures and number of replies they receive certainly support this observation.

Until just now, we had an area on the main forum index for what was called 'Members' Live Cruise Blogs'. The problem was that the area was in a somewhat hidden location near the foot of the main index. The area also included topics about other kinds of blogs.

I've created this 'Digital Postcards' area specifically for posts made live from a cruise.

I've used the term 'Digital Postcards' (which I believe was coined by Wansbrough) because I think it expresses what we're doing far better than the more generic term 'Blog'.

I hope you approve of this idea. :D

Like it very much Dave. Because of the time and effort that the few members, like yourself, Jill and Wansbrough put in to doing these 'live' reviews from cruises I think they thoroughly deserve to the a main attraction on the Index board.

I'll have a go on the QV in January. If not can I do what I did before Dave and e.mail you with my updates on the cruise. I find I can make notes as I go along and it is easier to e.mail from my notes than do it all again in a live blog which is more expensive to send.

Joan, what I do is type my blog as a Diary in 'Word' which means not having to go on line until you are ready to copy and paste it onto the forum.
;) That way I am only on line for a couple of minutes.

It's a great Idea Dave, and re-reading the postcards I realise what a brilliant idea they were. And now with the advent of the smart phones they are even easier than when base camp had to help get them posted on the forum.

i do however think that the postcards on one thread with replies on another gives a better format for long trerm viewing

I tend to disagree with you there Pete. I think the idea of the interaction between posters makes for a better read. What I did with my last cruise was to add a clickable index on the first post for ease of navigation. These can also be added to the review.

Digital Postcards from the "Celebrity Silhouette"(2013)

Same with Jill's last 3.

Jill's live blog from Black Watch November 2013
From Russia with Love
Jill's blog from mv Voyager
