I passed another milestone on yesterday's hilly walk - the total ascent since I began recording just over two years ago is now 250,002 feet! :D

Measuring ascent isn't very accurate for various reasons. For example, on yesterday's walk my watch recorded an ascent of 1,519 ft. For the same route, the OS website gives the ascent as 1,671 ft., while Google Earth makes it 1,893 ft. However, I've used the least generous measure (my watch) so that's okay... ;)

Well done Dave! Do you have any favourite areas that you have enjoyed, more than others? I guess so. I wish we were fit enough to do something like this, but alas I think we have left it too late!! I used to do quite a lot, when we lived in Lancashire, swimming, cycling, played volleyball, keep fit classes etc. We do try to get out more, when the weather is better. Roll on Spring and Summer!!

Hi Chris. I wanted to answer that question, but I wasn't sure how to and I'm afraid I never got around to replying.

The problem is that I enjoy almost everywhere and the very best areas are all amazing in their own ways but also very different. The same is almost certainly true of places we all visit on cruises...

I'll have a quick go though. In Kent, amongst my favourite areas are the North Downs near Postling (I might be able to see your house from there!), the cliff top path between Dover and Folkestone, and King's Wood near Chilham (especially in springtime). Further afield I've loved Snowdonia, the Puy-de-Dôme (dormant volcano in France), and everywhere in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland!

6 million steps in under a year (...and other milestones!)

Postby Dave » 05 Jan 2019 15:15

As 2019 begins, I’m more than halfway towards my target of 10,000 ('boots on') miles in four years! :D

In 2017, I recorded 2,541 miles and I've just completed 2,727 miles in 2018, making 5,268 miles in the first two calendar years. I didn't set out to reach 10,000 miles in four years, but now I'm determined to try!

6 million steps in under a year (...and other milestones!)

Postby Dave » 01 Feb 2019 15:12

I've been recording my walks, steps and other things for a little over two years and three months. Today, calculated by the number of steps I've taken, I passed 8,000 miles!

The steps figure is good to know (for me anyway!), but the recorded walks are what I really focus on - and a significant milestone is approaching. :D

6 million steps in under a year (...and other milestones!)

Postby Dave » 07 Feb 2019 18:32

Two new milestones this week... :D

The distance recorded for the last 12 months' walks varies from day to day, but I think this is the first time I've seen a distance as high as 2,800 miles...

Image

Today I passed the 6,000 mile mark for walks since I began recording them in October 2016 - just under 28 months ago...
