I didn't write up yesterday's weekend walk with my wife because it was a shortened version of the Dover walk I did a week ago. However, I did pass another milestone on the walk - 7,000 miles of hikes since I began recording them 2 years and 7 months ago. :D

6 million steps in under a year (...and other milestones!)

Tomorrow is the last day of June and it'll be a Sunday, so I've completed my walks for both the month and the first half of 2019.

Now that we've embraced hill and mountain walking (to an extent anyway - and mainly when on holiday!), I'm taking an increased interest in the figure my watch gives as 'Floors Climbed'. This month I've beaten my previous record! :D (As I've tried to explain before, Floors Climbed is Garmin's sort-of combination of ascent and gradient - or 'steepness'.) I exceeded 1,000 floors last October due to our week in Snowdonia when we did Snowdon, and I just beat that in April when I walked further than ever before plus we had a hilly holiday on the North Downs in Surrey. This month, I've recorded 1,422 floors - due mainly to doing more mountains in a second week in Snowdonia. (I should also mention that we live in a bungalow, so I don't get bonus from household floors!)

When I began recording my walks, I set myself a target of 2,500 miles in a year, but I've since revised that upwards to 3,000 miles. That requires an average of 250 miles a month, and so far I've exceeded that every month in 2019. At the halfway point for 2019, I've just passed 1,725 miles so I'm well on-target for the year. My fingers are crossed that things continue to go to plan...

Soon after I began 'proper' walking in mid-October 2016, I decided to try for 10,000 miles in 4 years.

Today, I passed the three-quarter-way mark with over three months of the third year left. :D

My main focus with regard to milestones is the distance I clock up on recorded walks, but I'm also watching my total distance calculated from steps. This is a considerably greater figure because it includes every step I take.

Anyway, after 2 years and 9 months I've just reached 10,000 miles. :-)

Brilliant! I'll be lucky if I've done 10 miles in that period!
