A day in Quebec

A day in Quebec

Postby Dave » 27 Nov 2011 16:34

Quebec is easily one of the most beautiful cities we've visited, and we were lucky with the autumnal weather for our day there because it rained for most of our time in Canada on our Balmoral cruise in 2009.

Quebec isn't one of those ports of call where all you can see from the ship are rows of containers. The view is stunning from the moment you step out on deck before breakfast:

I've posted this under DIY Excursions, although really we just explored pretty much at random. The focal point of Quebec is Le Château Frontenac - a magnificent building which towers over the city, so that's where we headed for. Canada is full of trees, and Quebec has many parks, and the autumn colours are spectacular:

A long board-walk stretches along the area by the château:

...ending at a very long stairway:

A view from the top of the stairway - Balmoral on the St Lawrence:

And then you're in a large park where the Battle of Quebec took place (I can't remember who won that one... ;) ):

After a long walk across the park we arrived back in the city to look for coffee. Quebec, being very French, has a great number of pavement cafés and bars!:

And finally, can you spot the only person in this photo?

Nice shot and yes, the backdrop is lovely, thought the person is wearing a red coat as everybody elses colours are not as vivid and you can see the line of the backdrop painting
