Guest Speakers

It wouldn't be a cruise without guest speakers. Probably the best we've seen are Edwina Currie (not of my political persuasion, but a brilliant speaker), and Jane Asher. I made a point of 'bumping into' Edwina Currie in a corridor, only to find I was too tongue-tied to say anything sensible!

Have you enjoyed any great guest speakers? Or have you seen anyone famous on board?

On Ventura last year we were in a stair well when I heard my other half say, ''I know this lady''. I turned around to see the lady in question saying, ''I'm Marlene............Boycie's wife''.

It was Sue Holderness from 'Only Fools and Horses'. We had a chat on the stairs and bumped into her now and again at other times. I also went to see her presentation...........I think it was 'an audience with.........'.

What a lovely lady she is. She also had loads of time to meet people after her show for autgraphs, photos and questions etc.

Now it might look as if I was taking a photo of my lovely wife...

...but I actually wanted to take a photo of the man on the next table. :D

Shall we play 'Name that person'? (Clue: Artist)

Best Speaker I heard was Buzz Aldrin on a total eclipse viewing cruise. I wish he'd forgotten to bring his wife as she tried to charge $5 each to speak to him after his talk.( MONEY GRABBING SO AND SO)

Luckily he was having none of it as the ship was completely full of very knowledgable(except me)astronomers both profesional and amature and some scientists(that was me), and he wanted to talk to them just like you would any other fellow cruiser.

No 2 NAME THAT PERSON(from a different cruise)

Can you name the man on the extreme right,at a friends balcony party. He was the HEADLINE act on the ship. ( i'll buy anyone who names him a pint)

Clue USA chart topper

Could it be Gerald Scarffe who is married to Jane Asher?

It is Gerald Scarfe!

Many know him for his caricatures on Yes Minister, but for me it's his artwork on Pink Floyd's The Wall that makes him special. I actually said, "Good morning" to him.

One of the best speakers I have heard was Tom Graveney. For those that don't know the name he was a cricketer who played for Gloucestershire and Worcestershire as well as being in the England team against Australia, India, West Indies etc. His stories were memorable and hillarious. He was also a gentleman. Something we don't always see in sportsmen these days.
