JEWELS OF THE CARIBBEAN SEA | September 27th 2015 (15 days) | On Silver Explorer

Day-by-Day Itinerary:

Day 1 - Fly Heathrow to Nassau with British Airways. Transfer to the Atlantis Coral Tower for a one night stay (room-only basis).

Day 2 — Nassau, Bahamas: Transfer from the Atlantis Coral Tower to the port and embark Silver Explorer. From here you will depart on your 15 day voyage of Cuba and the Caribbean. During the afternoon, you will be given the opportunity to meet Silversea's Expedition Team and familarise yourself with the ship before enjoying your first evening meal aboard Silver Explorer in The Restuarant.

Day 3 — At Sea: Today you will be able to enjoy the surroundings and facilities on Silver Explorer, whether you choose to relax on the deck with a book from the ship's library or venture to Explorer's theatre to learn more about Cuba and the surrounding region.

Days 4-5 — Havana, Cuba: La Habana is the largest city in Cuba and is the perfect port to begin your Jewels of the Caribbean itinerary. Guests can take the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour, starting with Modern Havana and visiting the residential areas of Vedado and Miramar neighbourhoods. You shall continue by foot through the historical centre of beautiful Old Havana (a UNESCO world heritage site) visiting Cathedral Square, Old Square, Arms Square and San Francisco de Asis Square.

Following an early evening meal onboard, you will be given the opportunity to experience a Havana Tropicana Show in the city. Founded in 1937, the venue is one of the most iconic in Havana. Peformed under the stars, the show promises to be spectacular and is something you do not want to miss.

The Silver Explorer will overnight in the port of Havana.

Havana will also bring some remarkable opportunities to explore as you depart to a biosphere reservation, Las Terazzas, 70km away from Havana City. The tourist complex covers 5000 hectares of untouched land at the eastern tip of the Guaniguanico Range in the Pinar del Rio province. Here you can enjoy the stunning nature and natural beauty of Cuba, with dense forests, waterfalls, Butterfly lillies and curious little creatures including frogs, lizards and Cuba's national bird, the Cuba Trojan.

Day 6— Maria La Gorda, Pinar del Rio, Cuba: Maria La Gorda offers a selection of things to see and do. You can enjoy relaxing on the beach or don your walking boots and join the Expedition Team on a beachcombing walk. For those of you who would like to take in the underwater beauty of Cuba, you can also opt to go snorkelling which we would recommend as Cuba has some of the most beautiful marine life in the world.

Day 7 — Punta Frances, Isle of Youth, Cuba: Discovered by Columbus in 1494 during his second trip to the Americas, Punta Frances is officially known as the Isle of Youth. The island sits between Mexico and Cuba in the Canarreos-Archipel and offers spectacular snorkelling opportunities. During your call here, Silver Explorer's onboard Marine Biologist will take guests on an exhilarating snorkel tour where you will have the chance to spot turtles, Parrot fish, Trumpet fish, Trigger fish and more! If you would rather opt for dry land, then you can also explore the National Park on foot.

Day 8 — Cienfuegos, Cuba: Enjoy a journey over to Trinidad, a UNESCO world heritage site and one of Cuba's most enchanting cities, where you will have the opportunity to visit the Brunet Palace, Museo Romantico and La Canchachara tavern. La Canchancara is named after a famous drink from the region which was one enjoyed by the Mambises (Cuban Liberating Army) and is made from lemon juice, honey and Santero Cuban run. It is then traditionally served in glazed ceramic pots.

Day 9 — At Sea: Relax onboard as Silver Explorer makes its way from Cienfuegos to Santiago de Cuba.

Day 10 — Santiago de Cuba, Cuba: Today you will embark on a short journey to La Gran Piedra, one of the Sierra Maestra Peaks, where you can admire the breathtaking views across the coast. The trek to the top is an impressive one; but your efforts shall be rewarded with Isabelica Museum, an old coffee plantation founded in the early 19th century.

Day 11 — Port Antonio, Jamaica: Join Silver Explorer's Expedition Team once again with a visit to the Blue Lagoon, or as the locals call it, the Blue Hole, and enjoy the most famous place in Portland. This legendary beauty spot offers swimmers a natural and interesting bathing experience as a mix of salt and fresh water combine. There will also be a visit to Frenchman's Cove.

Alongside Silver Explorer's onboard Ornithologist, you can also embark on a birding adventure along the Rio Grande River.

Day 12 – At Sea: During this day at sea you can catch up with your fellow travellers and continue to enjoy the luxurious surroundings provided by Silver Explorer.

Day 13 — Providencia Island, Colombia: Enclosed by an extensive barrier reef system of some 22 miles long, Isla de Providencia of the Archipelago of San Andreas rests one of the significant reefs outside of the Pacific and Indian oceans.

Here you can enjoy an open-air truck tour, taking in the sights and sounds of this beautiful and undisturbed part of the world. There may also be the opportunity to dive in search of lobster and sharks amongst other sea creatures, and as we snorkel the reef we will come face to face with delicate marine life that call this part of the world home.

Day 14 — Puerto Limon, Costa Rica: A hike into the rainforest will give you the opportunity to discover beautiful bird speicies including: Hummingbirds, Toucans and Kiskidees. The orchids and fauna emit a beautiful scent that you can only ever come across in the rainforest and the tall trees house many interesting jungle creatures, including snakes and monkeys.

Day 15 — Bocas del Torro, Panama: Via local boat you shall visit the Ngobe Indian Community, the largest indigenous group in the Archipelago of Bocas del Torro. You will have a wonderful opportunity to explore the village and interact with the people who there. This is a truly enriching experience.
