Vienna: Viennese Coffee and Sacher Torte

We had a reservation at the Blue Room in the Hotel Sacher for 1330 but the weather in Vienna was cat and we were late arriving into Vienna. Thumbs up to Phoenix Reisen for docking earlier upriver and bussing us to Schewdenplatz in Vienna where we were dropped off at the U Bahn. Fortunately Schwedenplatz and Opera were both on the U1 and the Hotel was across the road from Opera U bahn station! SO thankfully we did not get terribly wet or cold!!!

Even on an awful day folk queued outside the coffee. It was now 1530 so we had missed our reservation in the Blue Room -no hassle we were accommodated and in no time we had our order for Viennese coffees and Sacher Torte.

I had reservations about if the chocolate / apricot flavours would work for me! IT was absolutely amazing!!! .... and not too heavy, in fact while indulgent, it was light and airy!!!

As regards the Blue Room, it was very blue!!!

Kids had milk while Mom and Dad had Viennese coffees!

Not forgetting my carpet fetish ..............

We even got to play silly wotsits and weren't thrown out!!

And the bill ..................

€34,40 for 3 milks, 2 Viennese Coffees and 3 Sacher Tortes - ok! A tad expensive from an Irish viewpoint but not outrageous by Austrian standards!

Funny thing was, that back on the ship that evening we had Sacher Torte for dessert!

Honestly, while good it paled into significance compared to the real thing!!!

Oh, wonderful! Yes, we've had super Sacher Torte in Vienna, but not in such regal surroundings...
We were there for the Christmas market, by the Rat House, in deep snow, so made for cafes whenever we could... it was the city where we thanked MacDonalds, because you could always have a warm hour inside with decent loos... :)
