Arizona wrote:Another concerning issue for people feeling very unwell on SoD, especially when the ship is rolling around in a gale, is that in standard cabins the phone is not near the bed but on the wall by the bathroom. For some people it could be very difficult to summon help or even try to contact room service. Let’s hope this is one of the features they change on the new ship.

My thoughts entirely. I did at one point find myself on the floor between the bed and the wardrobe. I must have passed out briefly. I think it took the medical staff by surprise and they were completely overwhelmed. Today is another day and after something to eat last night, plenty of water, I feel better, still delicate but in the land of the living. Now to start unpacking bit by bit. Will probably take me the rest of the week to do that! Next job will be the questionnaire and an e mail to Saga.

Apparently about 50 people on the current 4 day cruise on SoD have Norovirus, so tomorrow's sailing is delayed until 22:00 hours for a specialist team to carry out deep cleaning.
I thought that specialist deep cleaning was the reason for delaying the last sailing?

The SoD didn't get to Rouen on her current cruise, and has been moored in Honfleur since Thursday. There must be a lot of unhappy passengers, one wonders if they were allowed ashore by the French authorities.
I would have thought that SAGA would have cut there losses and cancelled the 4 day cruise in order to completely clear the ship of the virus.

A very valid comment since it seems that the virus is still running riot.

Probably unable to get into Rouen because of time and tide constraints - did not arrive Honfleur until just after midnight.Disappointing for those hoping to sail up the river.
Bit surprising that she left Honfleur when she did, as now seems to be battling back across the channel at the peak of the storm - ETA Southampton has gone back from 06:30 to 11:30, which will not leave much time for another "deep clean" before the next sailing.
Must be pretty miserable on board at the minute for both passengers and crew.

SoD now mid channel due south of Portsmouth heading due east at 10Kn. Very mysterious!

Probably trying to change course to minimise weather movement - now pointing at the Solent, still expected Southampton 12:30.
Had they cancelled the short cruise, could have carried out full deep clean, made sure no crew were infected, and started off with a clean ship.
Suppose that it was a money situation - but how can even a specialist team carry out a real deep clean in a few hours? What about all those soft furnishings?

The ship left Honfleur round about 6pm yesterday. How could it take 18hours to cross the Channel? The passengers must have had the worst cruise experience: boarding much later than expected, leaving a day late, crossing the channel in a storm, missing the River Seine passage, mooring in the wrong port then returning on an extended crossing in another storm. All in 4 days with the threat of norovirus thrown in!
