Carnival Cruise line and AIDA jump on the Chinese Bandwagon

Carnival Cruise line and AIDA join both Costa and Princess in relocating ships to homeport in China. Quite clearly, this is where cruise lines expect growth and expansion in the market is.

The full story can be read here.

Felix Eichhorn, president of AIDA Cruises said:

“We are honoured to join our Carnival Corporation sister brands in China in 2017, including Costa Cruises, which pioneered cruising in China for the entire industry back in 2006. We look forward to offering Chinese guests our authentic AIDA experience of German style on the seas. By focusing on the interests of our guests in China, there is a significant opportunity to grow cruising demand for our brand, Carnival Corporation and the industry at large.”

I think it rather odd that AIDA who has up to now exclusively marketed their product in Germany have made the massive cultural leap to serve the Chinese market before looking at markets closer to home that may be more culturally akin to the market it currently serves.

Costa's Chinese cruises cannot be booked on its European websites, I wonder how 'Chinese' or 'Western' are these Chinese cruises - could they be so 'Chinese' that Costa daren't market them to Europeans as the culture shock may be too much to expect return business. :?

Well, if they serve 'authentic' Chinese food, Tom, that's at least two of us who would give it a miss!
