"The Swan" at Charing

I recently dined at "The Swan" pub/restaurant on the A20 at Charing, between Maidstone and Ashford and had a lovely meal. We met up with old cruising friends that we met on a round Australia cruise in 2010 - we hadn't met since then, but had kept in touch with them via the internet.

"The Swan" has two very nice restaurants, a traditional grill room and a Thai restaurant, but whichever one you choose you are given both table d'hote menus and you can mix and match the courses (example; an English starter, a Thai main course and an English dessert). The cost of three courses is less than £15, which is excellent value. I had garlic mushrooms with rustic bread, followed by a beef stew with mashed potatoes and vegetables, ending with banoffee pie. Chris had a Thai chicken and coconut soup, followed by king prawn stir fry with rice and vegetables and finished with a lemon posset. Sirloin steak was also on the grill menu and an a la carte menu was also available. The food was delicious, some of the Thai vegeatables had been carved into flowers and the service was exemplary. We were not rushed and found it to be a very enjoyable experience.

It struck me that it would be an ideal location for anybody wishing to have a nice lunch en-route to embarking on a cruise ship in Dover. It is not far off the M20 motorway and would be less than an hour's drive from the port.

That sounds like a nice place to eat when we are out and about in Kent. We are actually sailing from Dover in November but for us, that just means a scoot down the A2 which takes about an hour and 15 minutes.
We often take ourselves off to a National Trust property in Kent and so will bear 'The Swan' in mind.
Thanks for that Geoff. :)

"The Swan" at Charing is just 10 miles (17 minutes drive) from Leeds Castle, supposedly the prettiest castle in the Country. Entry is a little steep at £21 (£18.50 for concessions), but that gives you unlimited entry for 12 months, a bargain if you live within travelling distance as we do. :)
