I must admit I go on the scales once a week to see what's occurring and then know whether to be a bit more aware of the calorie content in my food. Counting calories is the only way I can lose weight. I know that on a cruise I will put on about 5 lbs. I now have menus for 10 days on our return which restores the previous weight. Also it is prudent before any holiday to have a few days of 'healthy eating'.

I never drink wine so I never gain weight. :) So there must be something in it as all my friends drink wine and are overweight.

I think you could be right Maggie, although I hadn't really considered it until I saw the news.

My sister has also been dieting this year but she goes to Weight Watchers. She tends to drink a glass of wine with lunch and dinner every day and although she has lost about 28lbs since January, tends to put on quite a few pounds when she goes on holiday. She drinks white wine and although I'm not sure that has as many calories as red, it still piles on the weight. :(

Maggie, it must be a girl thing as I recently calculated that I have drunk(and enjoyed most) 15,000...yes that's fifteen thousand bottles of wine over the last 50 years, and I' still the same weight as I was in my 20s....12st 3lbs.......you thought that I was going to say 22st 6lbs, didn't you?   Sipping and Sometimes Slurping Stan.

I hardly ever drink, never red wine but I still put on weight.
Trouble is, I don't seem able to give up eating!

It has nothing to do with wine! Its all to do with balancing calories intake i.e. ingestion and calorie usage i.e. normal metabolism plus physical exercise. If you take in more than you use - you get fat!
